Artist talk: Amund Sjølie Sveen

The art project NORDTING – “A Parliament for the North”, was started in 2014, and works to promote voices from north to north. Behind NORDTING, or rather in front, is the artist, musician and writer Amund Sjølie Sveen from Vadsø.

For this edition of  Barents Spektakel, Amund Sjølie Sveen  has brought with him an advertising sign displaying the words MAKE THE NORTH GREAT AGAIN! The installation opens on Wednesday 23 February at 19.30 with the Kirkenes Horn orchestra and other cultural ingredients – with the official opening being made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

On Thursday, Amund Sjølie Sveen visits Samfundshuset for an artist talk about NORDTING and about how to Make the North Great Again.

This is an “I love the North” campaign, a “The North must decide its own fate” campaign, a “The North is Great” campaign!

It’s about changing the way we think, and how to shift the perspective inside our heads – both in the North and the South. It is simply a matter of the stories we want to tell and who decides who gets to tell them.

 – Amund Sjølie Sveen, leader of NORDTING.
